Evaluating Evolutionary Mechanisms by Simulation

چکیده

A three year research project is investigating evolutionary processes in electronic markets. Three fundamental evolutionary mechanisms are innovation, imitation and improvement of existing procedures. As part of the initial investigation, simulation experiments have been performed to investigate the relative impact and cost of these three evolutionary mechanisms. The design of those simulation experiments is described here together with a description of the implementation and some preliminary results. The simulation was implemented in Java and is available over the Internet as an applet. The experiments are based on a relative demand function that peaks early and then tends to zero over time. So the markets to which these results apply are those in which fashion and ‘fad’ are significant factors, such as the market for electronic goods.

Robustness evaluation of incentive mechanisms

A general assumption for incentive mechanisms is that all agents are rational and seek to maximize their utility. When some agents are irrational and launch various attacks, these mechanisms may fail to work. To address the issue of evaluating the robustness of incentive mechanisms, we propose a robustness metric in this paper. It is inspired by the studies of the evolutionary game theory and d...

Evolution of Autonomous Self - Righting Beh . 4 Viors for Articulated Nanorovers

Miniature rovers with articulated mobility mechanisms are being developed for planetary surface exploration on Mars and small solar system bodies. These vehicles are designed to be capable of autonomous recovery from overturning during surface operations. This paper describes a co.mputationa1 means of developing motion behaviors that achieve the autonomous recovery function. It proposes a contr...

Mechanisms of Adaptation to Periodic Environmental Change

Despite Darwin’s pluralistic view that “natural selection has been the main, but not the exclusive means of modification” (Darwin, 1872) (quoted in (Lewontin and Gould, 1979)), subsequent major developments in evolutionary biology such as the theories of natural selection, the modern synthesis, and molecular neo-darwinism have biased scientific explanations of evolution towards gene-centric the...

Estimation of Runoff using Modified SCS Models

In recent decades, due to the importance of watershed management programs and the need for adequate information and correct estimation of rainfall and runoff, many conceptual models have been proposed. These models have parameters that must be estimated according to observational data. However, finding the optimal values for the parameters of simulation models has always faced uncertainty. One ...
